Pet Travel Documentation, Managed From Start to Finish

International pet travel can involve veterinary certificates, import permits, export documents, rabies testing, government endorsements and airline paperwork. Fly Your Tail coordinates the documentation and veterinary timeline so each step is completed in the correct order.
Clear requirements. Correct timing. One coordinated process.

More Than Filling Out Forms

Pet travel documentation is not simply about collecting certificates. Many requirements are linked to specific dates, vaccination history, laboratory results, government procedures and airline rules. One document completed too early, too late or with incorrect information can delay the entire relocation.

Import Documentation

Import permits, declarations and destination-specific requirements.

Export Documentation

Export certificates and origin-country veterinary procedures.

Veterinary Certificates

Health certificates, vaccination records and final veterinary examination documents.

Rabies Testing

Planning for RNATT/rabies titre testing and associated waiting periods where required.

Government Endorsement

Coordination with the relevant competent authority where official endorsement is required.

Airline Documentation

Supporting documentation required for cabin, baggage or cargo arrangements.

How We Build the Documentation Timeline

1

Review the Pet’s History

We check microchip details, vaccination records, previous rabies tests and existing documents.

2

Confirm Origin & Destination Requirements

We identify which import, export and transit rules apply.

3

Build the Veterinary Timeline

We arrange the correct order for vaccinations, testing, treatments and examinations.

4

Coordinate Applications & Certificates

Import permits, export documents and veterinary certificates are prepared.

5

Government Endorsement

Where required, documents are submitted to the relevant authority for official certification.

6

Final Pre-Travel Review

We check that names, microchip numbers, dates and supporting documents match before travel.

Documentation Is Where Small Mistakes Become Big Problems

One of the things I check most carefully in a relocation is whether every document matches. A wrong microchip number, an incorrect vaccination date, a missing signature or a certificate issued outside the required timeframe can affect the whole journey.

I prefer to build the veterinary and documentation plan before flights are finalised, especially for regulated destinations. That way, we know what needs to happen and when instead of trying to fix paperwork at the last minute.

My role is to keep the sequence clear and make sure everyone involved — owner, veterinarian, laboratory, airline and destination agent — is working from the same plan.

Documents Commonly Required for International Pet Travel

A direct flight can be ideal, but not always. A suitable relocation route depends on more than flight time.
Not every pet needs every document. Requirements depend on the country of origin, destination, species, vaccination history and current government regulations.

Veterinary Preparation in the Correct Order

International pet travel often requires more than one veterinary appointment. Depending on the destination, preparation may involve microchipping, rabies vaccination, blood sampling, parasite treatment, disease testing and a final pre-travel examination.

Vaccination Planning

We check whether existing vaccinations meet the destination requirements.

Laboratory Testing

We coordinate required blood tests and help ensure samples are sent to appropriate laboratories where applicable.

Treatments

Required parasite or disease treatments are scheduled within the correct timeframe.

Final Health Examination

The final veterinary certificate is completed within the applicable pre-travel window.

Rabies Titre Tests & Veterinary Sample Logistics

Some destinations require a Rabies Neutralising Antibody Titre Test or other laboratory testing before a pet can travel.

Fly Your Tail can coordinate international veterinary sample logistics to authorised laboratories, including packaging, documentation, courier arrangements, customs requirements and temperature control where necessary.

Laboratory eligibility and testing requirements depend on the destination country and current regulations.

Government Approval & Certification

Some pet relocations require documents to be issued, endorsed or approved by an official veterinary authority before travel.

Fly Your Tail coordinates the process and confirms what needs to be completed by the pet owner, private veterinarian, official veterinarian or government authority.

Important disclaimer:

Government approvals and processing times remain under the control of the relevant authority and cannot be guaranteed.

Common Documentation Mistakes That Can Delay a Pet Relocation

Microchip Details Do Not Match

The number must be consistent across vaccination, laboratory and travel documents.

Rabies Vaccination Done in the Wrong Sequence

Some destinations require microchipping before the qualifying rabies vaccination.

Blood Test Taken Too Early

Mandatory waiting periods may begin from the blood-sampling date.

Certificate Issued Too Early

Some health certificates have a short validity period.

Missing Government Endorsement

A private vet signature may not be sufficient.

Owner Name Does Not Match

Passport, veterinary and import documents may need to identify the same person.

Wrong Export Country

The country where the pet completes preparation can affect the applicable import pathway.

Travel Date Changes

A change in flight date may require certificates or treatments to be repeated.

Some Destinations Require Much More Preparation

Australia

Long veterinary preparation, import permits and quarantine planning.

New Zealand

Strict biosecurity preparation and documentation.

United Kingdom

Different requirements depending on route and travel method.

Japan

Rabies preparation, waiting periods and advance notification.

South Africa

Country-specific veterinary testing and import procedures.

Singapore

Import permits and quarantine requirements depending on origin.

How Early Should You Start the Documentation Process?

Some routes can be prepared relatively quickly. Others require several months because of rabies testing, waiting periods, quarantine bookings or government permits.

As a general rule, I recommend checking the requirements before booking non-refundable travel, especially for destinations with strict biosecurity rules.

Frequently Asked Questions

Import Export Veterinary Documentation FAQs

What documents does my pet need for international travel?
The exact documents depend on your pet’s origin, destination, species, vaccination history, travel method and current government regulations. Common requirements can include a microchip record, rabies vaccination certificate, veterinary health certificate, import permit, export certificate, rabies titre test, parasite treatment record, government endorsement and airline documentation. Fly Your Tail reviews the individual case and confirms what is actually required.
Not always. A rabies antibody titre test, also called an RNATT or rabies serology test, is required for some destinations and some countries of origin. Where it is required, the vaccination date, blood-sampling date, laboratory and waiting period must all meet the destination’s rules. We check whether the test is needed and build it into the veterinary timeline.
Yes. You can use Fly Your Tail for documentation and veterinary coordination only, without booking a full relocation service. We can review the requirements, prepare the timeline, coordinate permits, guide your veterinarian and check the final paperwork while you manage the flight directly with the airline.
Where permitted, yes. We can coordinate or prepare import permit applications as part of the relocation or documentation service. Some authorities require the owner or importer to submit the application directly, while others allow an authorised representative to do so. We confirm the correct process for each destination.
Yes. We regularly work directly with private veterinarians, official veterinarians and veterinary clinics to explain the required vaccinations, blood tests, treatments, examination dates and certificate wording. This helps reduce errors and ensures the veterinary preparation follows the correct sequence.
It depends on the type of error and when it is discovered. Some mistakes can be corrected easily, while others may require a document to be reissued, a government endorsement to be repeated or even a veterinary step to be completed again. This is why we perform a final document review before travel whenever documentation support is included.
How far in advance should I start?
As early as possible. Some destinations can be prepared relatively quickly, while others require several months because of rabies testing, mandatory waiting periods, import permits or quarantine bookings. If you already know your destination, it is better to check the requirements before booking non-refundable travel.
Where government endorsement is required, we can coordinate the process and explain what needs to be completed by the private veterinarian, official veterinarian and competent authority. The exact procedure varies by country, and final approval always remains with the relevant government authority.
Yes. Fly Your Tail provides international veterinary sample logistics to authorised laboratories. Depending on the case, this may include blood, serum, plasma, swabs and other approved diagnostic specimens. We can coordinate packaging, documentation, courier arrangements, customs requirements and temperature control where necessary.
A date change can affect more than the flight. Some veterinary certificates, parasite treatments, laboratory tests, permits and government documents are only valid within specific timeframes. If your travel date changes, we review the existing preparation and confirm whether anything needs to be updated, reissued or repeated.

Not always. Some authorities accept electronic copies, while others require original signed or government-endorsed documents. Airlines, customs agents and destination handlers may also have their own requirements. We confirm which documents must travel as originals, which can be copies and which can be submitted electronically.
